FASB adopts fair-value accounting for covered crypto assets

The Financial Accounting Standards Board required qualifying crypto assets such as bitcoin to be measured at fair value each reporting period.

Changes in fair value would be recognized in net income, replacing the prior indefinite-lived intangible impairment model for covered holdings. The standard applied to fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024, with early adoption permitted.
