BTC Guild and Slush downgraded their mining nodes from Bitcoin 0.8 to 0.7, moving majority hash power onto the older-compatible branch. That branch overtook the competing branch in cumulative proof of work, causing 0.8 nodes to reorganize onto it and abandon their previous branch. The two branches were not merged. Trading and some payment processing paused during the incident.
