OCC permits banks to use blockchain networks for payments

The OCC said U.S. national banks may participate in independent node verification networks and use stablecoins for permissible payment activities.

Interpretive Letter 1174 addressed bank-operated nodes and payment functions rather than authorizing every cryptocurrency activity. It extended the agency's earlier custody analysis into distributed payment infrastructure.
