OCC removes its crypto supervisory non-objection process

OCC Interpretive Letter 1183 reaffirmed permissible bank crypto activities while rescinding the prior requirement for written supervisory non-objection.

The letter retained the legal conclusions on custody, certain stablecoin activities, and distributed-ledger payment operations. Banks remained responsible for safe and sound risk management and compliance under ordinary supervision.
